Colourblind

There are always scenes that linger. From a movie, from a book. Those timeless, charming images that you smile and make you wish you grew up in a similar place. The quaint little houses, the friends who live round the corner. It seems idyllic. Falling in love with your kindergarten schoolmate, playing basketball in the dusty court outside your high school.

But honestly. Would you really want to grow up surrounded by the same 1,000 people the rest of your life? Of having a job that really, just didn’t go anywhere. Of seeing tourists with more money than you could imagine oggle at your house.

But then a happy family, a happy relationship, friends who you loved and saw everyday. What’s better?

The grass is blue. Everywhere. Because actually, we’re all just colourblind.

I’m finally ‘attempting’ to read some classics I didn’t have the luxury of time for and one of them is “Catch 22″ by Joseph Keller. This line in the introduction caught my eye…
“It was Byron, coincidentally, who wrote ‘One hates an author that’s all author.’ And that was part of the Heller charm - that you smelled the world and all its pleasures on him, and not the midnight oil.”
    What an apt description…of you.

the last time i checked, 1499 or 1599 for the whole kit! that’s for authorized dealer. does that mean sim lim sq will sell cheaper???

    and i’m only halfway thru!

Yeh definitely, Sim Lim is cheaper! I checked out prices at http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=39 it’s a pretty reliable source. If I were you I’d get the body at around S$1100-1200 and then get the kit lens separately. If you want the 17-55 I’ll give you mine, I don’t use it anymore :P or you can buy it second hand on the forum for about S$60 bucks? A lot of people are selling it. Not because it’s a bad lens, but because you will soon grow out of it, so it’s good not to spend too much on it first. :) After using it for a while you’ll soon discover where you want to go after that.

serious?? ahh… actually what lense will be considered gd generally? and thanks! i may consider to borrow from u when I’m reaaallly buying it. for now 450D shall be my target! :)

million dollar question ;P i guess ‘good’ is subjective to price but my guide was
budget (S$100 or less): the 18-55mm kit lens and the 50mm f1.8
    medium (S$600 or less): 28-135mm, 85mmf1.8 prime 35mmf2.0 prime.
    high (S$1000 or less): 17-40mmL, 10-22mm
    no budget: everything else!

I’d start with the kit, and then see where you want to go from there, personally I think that’s the best way instead of buying some lenses without knowing what you really enjoy taking… or what limitations you feel are imposed by one particular lens :)

Btw, i see some 400D bodies going second hand for about 700-800 bucks… might want to consider…

wow… thanks! :) but is getting a 2nd hand actually gd? Anything ‘un-safe’ about it?

  9. 9 theroo

well, personally i would try to avoid second hand bodies basically due to the mechanical parts in the body, such as the shutter, you dont actually know how much it has been used. but i would think that starting out, saving 700 bucks is a good deal, considering servicing for the shutter would probably only cost about 100- 200 bucks? so quite worth it in my opinion. but then again, do you -really- want a camera someone else has used? i guess it’s the whole ‘it’s mine’ thing :P
